Hokkaido International Foundation Programs

The program sponsored by the Hokkaido International Foundation takes 2 months over the summer. If you taking a semester off, it can be extended through the winter if you win the scholarship. It is a great program. The program takes place in Hakodate, Hokkaido in Northern Japan, where Commander Perry opened Japan to the West. The language teachers are excellent, and the Matsuri is superb. Two of my friends attended before I went in 1992 and 1993 and recommended it to me. I loved it too in 1994. I have met people who attended it in 1995 and 1996 and they loved it also. A home stay is mandatory in this program. You can get credit for Japanese language, and culture classes through UCLA (Herbert Plutschow?).
Fees: ~$4500 incl Airfare for Summer Seminar
Time frame: Japanese Language and Culture Seminar (Mid June-Mid Aug.)
